The sign in Hanja reads "Hankuk Chaeyuk Kwan", directly under it is another sign in Hangul that reads "Hankuk Chaeyuk Dojang". This was the home
Jidokwan in the Seoul area aka "Seoul Jidokwan". It was in this gym that the Karate (Kong/Tang Soo Do) that our seniors learned from CHUN, Sang Sup, YOON, Byung In and Dr.YUN, Kwai Byeong was tested along side Boxing, Judo, Kendo and Weight Lifting. This exposure to contact and strength
training methods that lead to the development of an additional type of sparring (Yunsup Kyorugi), which would employ a hogu and adopt full force blows,
radically changing the old style of Kwan Karate into the modern style of Kukkiwon Taekwondo. This additional method of training and sparring would
eventually have a tremendous impact on all world martial arts.
